On March 23, 1965, Douglas Paul Canney was born in Johnson City, TN. Ten years later his
Dad bought him his first guitar, a ‘71 Gibson SG. Many of his cousins played and helped fuel
his desire to play.
After moving to NC with little or no input from other players, because there weren’t any, Doug began
to develop his ear. Aerosmith, Nugent, Frampton and later Van Halen pointed him in the live
performance direction. In 1981, Doug became a professional touring musician. Playing cover music in
night clubs and bars for 8 years gave him a great musical work ethic.
In 1988 he left the full-time road life and started a family and his own band, Kruella Deville. Two
independent labels later and seven years of constant playing and writing, the band ended and so,
thought Doug, his musical career.
Not so. In 1997, he began writing in the style he was most comfortable - Blues Rock. Doug’s guitar
sound has been through many changes in the nearly 30 years he has been playing. The aggresive
Texas Blues "straty" twang is now where his musical heart lies.
In 2000, Doug signed with a small publishing company and record label - Tuscarora Enterprises and
Publishing Inc.(BMI). Fronting his own band, he no longer has to rely on other people for the band to
work.
With one disk out and a new one soon to be released, it is obvious he has found his path. Where it
leads, only time will tell. |
